# Bleeding edge Twenty-four years ago a mentor told me, “You aren’t on the cutting edge unless you’re bleeding.” He wasn’t talking about technology, but the line keeps coming back to me anyway. Building software with agentic AI partners means the ground shifts weekly, or even daily. A workflow I spent a month perfecting in October was obsolete by November. The skill I built yesterday gets replaced by a native capability today. And right when you’re in go-time, a foundation model’s API goes down and reminds you exactly how sharp the knife’s edge is. There’s no instruction manual. Just constant experimentation, learning, and relearning—often in public, often badly. The hard part isn’t finding what works; it’s the willingness to keep moving as it shifts beneath you. I’m glad to have a front-row seat to it. Bandaids and stitches and all.
