Slavery is 'a cruel war against human nature'

The original Declaration of Independence called slavery 'a cruel war against human nature'.

Found in Rifles for Watie by Harold Keith, pages 170–171. Specifically calling the slave trade ‘an execrable commerce,’ ‘a piratical warfare,’ and ‘a cruel war against human nature.’

This and other expressions against slavery were left out of the final version of The Declaration of Independence because Georgia and South Carolina disagreed, and the founders wanted to preserve harmony.
