Man, every day I wake up I face scope creep. That’s life.
In his book, *User Story Mapping*, [[Jeff Patton]] writes, “Scope doesn't creep. Understanding grows.”
There is a valid concern with scope creep when unrelated or unnecessary additions are made to something that adds it’s the cost (or effort), much like pork-filled legislatation. But calling new information that improves our understanding of something “scope creep” only serves to shut down conversation.
It’s important to acknowledge that no one knows everything up front. If the point building solutions is to help others achieve a desired outcome ([[Outcomes are more important that output]]), then refusing to adjust direction as we encounter new information is a sure-fire way to miss the target.
