[[User onboarding]] is more than pointing out various parts of a product’s UI features—onboarding should help people achieve the reason they’re using your product in the first place.
Poor onboarding experiences can increase frustration, and can even drive new users away from your product. Many techniques used today, like tooltip tours, result in **distracting**, **controlling**, and **flaky** experiences that leave users confused and annoyed, pulling them out of the workflows they're trying to complete rather than helping them.
Instead, follow [[Principles of user onboarding]] to create integrated, empowering, and steadfast onboarding experiences.
