**Low floor:** How easy is it to pick up and learn? **Wide walls:** How inclusive is it? Are there many ways to go about using/doing it? Does it cover a lot of use cases? **High ceiling:** How well does it scale? *Low floor* and *high ceiling* are terms are attributed to [[Seymour Papert]]. The idea is that something with a low floor is easy for a novice to pick up and start using, and that something with a high ceiling can be used in more advanced, scalable ways. [[Mitchel Resnick]] takes this concept further, stating that *wide walls* are needed to provide multiple paths from the floor to the ceiling. This is especially important in terms of [[Universal design]], serving many different audiences with different abilities. --- ## Reference - [Low floor, wide walls, high ceiling](http://gordonbrander.com/pattern/low-floor-wide-walls-high-ceiling/) by [[Gordon Brander]] - [Designing for Wide Walls](https://mres.medium.com/designing-for-wide-walls-323bdb4e7277) by [[Mitchel Resnick]]
